IN A WORLD OF AI AND CONVENIENCE

In a world where everyone is living in 60 seconds and the attention span of the average youth in this generation is whining down to that of a gold fish, we are forced to wind down our lives to summary.

You learn in 60 seconds. You watch a 2hour movie in 2minutes and you read a book in the summary contained at the back of the book.

The era of reading is gradually going extinct and what used to be a simple Google research has turned into TikTok search with so much distraction that you go looking for a recipe but end up spending the next 2-3hours of your day on the app watching completely unrelated but entertaining stuff.

So the big question is; is the world ever going back to what we used to know as normal before a new normal came?? Are we ever going past this screen generation back to when libraries were as essential as a grocery store in every community??.

AI has made everything so easy and life so convenient that I’m wondering if this convenience is an advantage or disadvantage to our world?.

I saw a post some days ago of ‘petition to bring back inconvenience’. We are so used to convenience that a lot of people are now living in isolation and without human contact for days.

I am a practical example; today is 9th August and since 1st August I have been indoors with barely any human contact. Thank God for the Holy Spirit that continually keeps me company not to loose my mind but a lot more people are depressed and in a sad place in this world of so much convenience.

With the advent of technology, life is expected to be much easier and smoother but it seems reverse is the case for many. To mention but a few: more people are homeless on the streets, the number of depressed persons keep going up by the day, divorce numbers are over the roof and etcetera.

So the big question is what could be wrong? In a world of so much convenience, what could possibly be wrong?? In a world of technology, robotics and artificial intelligence, what really is going wrong?

Maybe just maybe what we call the old fashion way of doing things is the gold standard. Maybe just maybe the inconvenience of driving your friend to the airport instead of ordering an Uber and the little pep talk you have on the way is what you need to stay sane for the rest of that week. Maybe going into the office instead of working from the comfort of your mattress and getting all the “tea” with who is doing what at work is what you need to bubble up your spirit from such a sad and tired place because it seems while working remotely has replaced walk in schedule, the level of fatigue hasn’t been replaced either.

Maybe walking into the grocery store and having a little pep talk with a complete stranger while waiting in line to check out was the highlight you needed for the day instead of ordering dinner, Maybe cooking something while your husband grills outside and the kids help with the dishes as opposed using the dish washer is the family bonding you need to know more about your family rather than finding out what they’re battling one regret later.

But o well, what do I know? I’m just a young girl with a millennial mind trapped in the body and generation of the Z and Instead of thinking backwards I should be grateful for AI, technology and convenience.

With Love🫢🏽
